The new tennis complex concession stand and locker rooms were dedicated last week in memory of Herbert Joseph Strub, thanks to the generosity of Anthony and Angela Smith and the matching gift given by Coca-Cola in our Paving the Way Capital Campaign.
The Smith family chose to name the new building in honor of Angela’s grandfather, who was the Chief Captain of the Coca-Cola Aviation Department for 35 years.
He mainly flew Mr. Robert Woodruff around the world on the private Coke jet, but many of his trips included other executives, as well as many well known celebrities.
“He loved flying and traveling and often joked that he would do this job even if they didn’t pay him!” says Angela of her grandfather. “He was very devoted to his family and grandchildren, putting them first above all others. He filled my life with joy and warmed the hearts of everyone he encountered. It’s an honor and a blessing to bring good cheer to The Joe.”
We are so grateful for the Smith’s contribution and their willingness to leverage the generous Coca-Cola charitable matching program on behalf of NCCS. We know our students and parents will enjoy this beautiful space at our tennis complex for many years to come.
